Poland is ready to produce electricity for Ukraine at its TPPs.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk proposed using Polish coal-fired power plants to generate energy for Ukraine’s needs.
“Currently, we are working to burn Polish coal, which we currently have a lot of, and not pay for the emissions from this, and to send the electricity produced by Polish power plants from Polish coal for European money to Ukraine through the existing energy bridge,” said Tusk.
He admitted that this will not solve Ukraine’s energy problem completely (because there are physical limitations to the amount of electricity it can supply to Ukraine), but “at least it can partially help Ukraine to survive a difficult winter.” Tusk added that he would encourage European partners to “look for creative ideas” to support Ukrainian energy.
As a reminder, the capacity of interstate crossings between Ukraine and the EU for imports since December 2023 is 1,700 MW. In May, following attacks by the Russian Federation on energy infrastructure, Ukraine reached its maximum electricity import level and is currently negotiating to increase it to 2,200 MW.
