Oil refining in the Russian Federation has fallen to an almost six-month low, but sanctions are not the reason.
Oil refining in the Russian Federation has continued to fall over the past week as the aggressor country’s refineries grapple with the aftermath of Ukrainian drone attacks. Refinery production fell by nearly 380,000 barrels per day compared to December, the last month before Ukraine launched attacks on refineries.
According to Bloomberg, in February the average daily volume of oil that is refined in Russia has decreased to 5.21 million barrels, which is the lowest figure since the beginning of October. In the second week of February, oil refineries processed 5.16 million barrels of oil daily, 94,000 barrels per day less than a week earlier.
Since the beginning of the year, six oil refineries have been damaged in Ukrainian attacks, which represents about 18% of the entire refining capacity of the Russian Federation.
