More than 2 100 wagons with grain are in a queue at the port of Izmail, which fulfills the annual cargo handling plan in a record five months.
As of May 8 4,978 loaded wagons were moving toward Izmail, of which 2,168 contain grain cargoes, Ukrainian Railways top manager Valery Tkachov said.
At the same time, grain unloading by port operators has significantly decreased due to weather conditions. Tkachev noted that the average daily grain unloading at the port of Izmail is 60-80 wagons per day. So the overload could take about a month to process. Therefore, the company asks to refrain from shipping grain cargoes in the direction of the port of Izmail.
As of the morning of May 9 the port of Izmail met its annual 6.18-million-ton processing plan . This is a record for the entire history of the port’s annual performance. The leading cargo categories at the port by transshipment volume are grain, oil, meal, sunflower, and iron ore raw materials.
