Japan will help Mykolaiv process waste from the war’s destruction; the city is looking for investors to build an asphalt plant.

Mykolaiv will cooperate with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to recycle construction debris that has resulted from shelling, said Mykolaiv’s mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych.

“We have already received €1M worth of equipment within this project,” he noted.

According to him, the issue of acquiring additional equipment to process debris, particularly that which remains after shelling, is currently being resolved. As Sienkevych reported, work is underway to organize a dedicated site where this equipment will be placed. The project involves the dismantling and removal of destroyed structures, not only in Mykolaiv, but also in the surrounding area and even in the Kherson region.

Also, according to the mayor, Mykolaiv will seek financing to construct an asphalt plant, which will produce material for road construction from waste.

Note that, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, as of the end of 2023 more than 450,000 tons of construction waste from demolition were generated nationwide.
