Infrastructure restoration has significantly driven domestic metallurgy; analysts predict further growth in demand.
According to the results from 2023, the internal consumption of steel, considering imports, was approximately 3.5 million tons. Although metal trading companies face numerous problems caused by the war, they have rebuilt their operations quickly, are able to offer their customers all necessary products, and have been able to avoid shortages.
After a significant drop in 2022, demand for metal products in Ukraine recovered last year and grew by 44%. This growth is primarily related to the activation of state projects: restoration of infrastructure, particularly bridges, and construction of energy shelters.
The main market trends have become intensified construction, the growth of imports and logistics costs, and the rapid adaptation by enterprises.
Metal trading companies expect a continuation of sales growth in 2024 and the key trends of 2023, particularly infrastructure restoration and high demand for metal construction products. This year, the demand for metal products is predicted to grow by 10-17%.
