In Ukraine, preparations are underway for the launch of three biomethane plants, and the construction of seven wind farms.

During the Green Energy for Reconstruction conference, Chairman of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine Heorhiy Heletukha noted that four biomethane production facilities are currently operational in the country and actively exporting products to Europe. Three additional plants are in the final stages of converting their equipment from biogas to biomethane production, with operations expected to begin soon. He mentioned that there are “growth problems” in the European biomethane market, yet overall demand remains high, with market participants eager to acquire Ukrainian biomethane.

Meanwhile, Andriy Konechenkov, head of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, highlighted that seven wind farm projects are ready to be developed in Ukraine by 2025. Construction is notably progressing on the second phase of the Tyligulska wind farm, which is the largest wind project in the country. From February 2022 to early 2024, companies have fully or partially constructed four wind farms. Last year saw the installation of only 20 MW of commercial wind generation in Ukraine, but there are currently projects prepared for the construction of an additional four GW of wind farm generation capacity.
