Hungary has blocked the approval of a new package of EU sanctions against Russia and China.

At a meeting of EU ambassadors on February 14, Hungary was the only country not to support the 13th package of sanctions targeting nearly 200 individuals and entities from Russia, China, and other countries assisting Moscow in its military operations.

Hungary did not agree to the new sanctions due to the presence of Chinese companies on the list. The Hungarian ambassador asked for a little more time to analyze the content of the proposals.

Officials from the EU, the US, and their allies also discussed new sanctions against the Russian Federation in Brussels. The US promised to continue to monitor the implementation of sanctions that have already been introduced and to coordinate new actions with the EU, Britain, and Ukraine.

The former head of the US Foreign Assets Control Office, John Smith, predicts that the American package will include additional sanctions against about 100 companies and individuals.
