German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the federal government could not specify the security guarantees it is ready to provide to Ukraine yet, and they must be discussed with their allies in the North Atlantic Alliance, reported Sueddeutsche. Scholz said that Germany is sticking to its earlier promise to join Ukraine’s security guarantees, but there is no promise of automatic military assistance in the event of an attack. He added that specific guarantees are currently being discussed with partner countries and Ukraine, but, according to the German chancellor, it is evident that they cannot be “such as correspond to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.”
