DTEK names four critical factors for getting through the winter and its plans to restore up to 70% of Ukraine’s damaged generation capacity.

To get through the next winter, it is necessary to have sufficient air defenses, restore a significant amount of generation, increase electricity import capacity (from 1.7 GW to 2.2 GW or even 2.7 GW), and develop distributed generation, said DTEK Executive Director Dmytro Sakharuk.

He noted that all this will not provide all needed electricity this winter, however. The top manager added that, provided there are no new shellings, DTEK plans to restore 60-70% of the thermal generation destroyed by Russian attacks since March by this October.

Sakharuk specified that, currently, all of the energy holding’s power plants, have significantly damaged building structures, as well as to equipment. According to him, the company is currently restoring generation with its funds and some equipment transferred from Europe, but these volumes are only 10-15% of what is needed.

By the end of 2024, DTEK plans to invest ₴4B in generation restoration in addition to the ₴1.3B already invested. At the same time, according to him, the total need for financial resources to restore generation is $350-400M.
