Canada issues government bonds to support Ukraine.
The Canadian government has issued government bonds on Ukraine’s behalf, the proceeds from which will be transferred to Ukraine, announced the Canadian Ministry of Finance. “In order to give Canadians the opportunity to support the brave people of Ukraine directly, the Government of Canada is today issuing “Sovereignty of Ukraine” bonds for $500M,” reads the distributed announcement. The department noted that the funds will help the Ukrainian government continue to provide important services to Ukrainians this winter, such as paying pensions, purchasing fuel, and restoring the energy infrastructure. “All willing to support Ukraine can purchase five-year Canadian government bonds with an effective interest rate of 3.3%. In addition, the safety of the investment is fully secured by Canada’s AAA credit rating,” the ministry explained.
