Businesses plan to build a system of private vegetable storage facilities in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy stated that in 2025 Ukraine plans to build a private network of vegetable storage facilities with the help of private businesses. Large companies produce only 450,000 tons of potatoes, with the rest of the crop grown by households with 10-20 hectares.
The ministry is confident that it will be profitable for small farmers to sell their potatoes to traders or large producers with storage facilities. In addition, large vegetable storage facilities will stimulate processing because agribusinesses can accurately predict the arrival of raw materials and optimize production at their factories. If there are several vegetable storage facilities in each region of Ukraine, this will simplify retail work, which is currently forced to import potatoes.
The Green Wave company, which grows lettuce, basil, and microgreens, said a large farm for cucumbers, tomatoes, and hot peppers will soon be launched in the Lviv region. Vertical farming in a closed soil system is a method of growing plants in specially maintained conditions that allow more products to be grown in a smaller area.
