Biden urges Republicans to approve additional funding for Ukraine now that they have reached an agreement on 2024 government funding.

At stake is about more than $60B in support for a war-torn country struggling to defend its land from Russia.

“Now, Republicans in Congress must do their job, stop the threats, and fulfill their primary responsibility to fund critical homeland and national security priorities, including my additional request. It is time for them to act,” US President Joe Biden emphasized.

Earlier, US House and Senate leaders announced a deal to fund the government through 2024, the first step toward preventing a shutdown.

According to Republicans, the agreement provides for a total federal spending of $1.6T. That figure includes $886B for defense and $704B in non-defense spending. The document provides for the continuation of the Initiative for Security Assistance to Ukraine until 2027.

The Ukrainian parliament believes that the agreement significantly increases the chances of obtaining a compromise on allocating aid to Ukraine.
