Biden announces new military assistance for Ukraine.
President Joe Biden said on Thursday that the US will send an additional $800M in military aid to Ukraine as Russia’s war enters what he called a “critical window,” reported CNN. The new shipment of military aid includes heavy artillery and ammunition, said Biden in a speech at the White House, updating Americans on the state of the conflict, which is nearing its second month and entering what US officials have said could be a bloody new phase. Biden said Russia had refocused its campaign to seize new territory in eastern Ukraine, making the flow of western military aid essential. “The US and our allies are moving as fast as possible to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need,” said the US President. The new military aid package will include 72 155mm howitzers and 144,000 artillery rounds, 72 tactical vehicles to tow the 155mm Howitzers, 121 Phoenix Ghost tactical unmanned aerial systems, field equipment, spare parts, and other weapons Ukraine has requested.
