Direct flights from Tel Aviv to Uman for the annual Rosh Hashana pilgrimage?
That could be the result of a recent decision to transfer 500 hectares from Uman’s military airfield to civilian use, Agriculture Minister Roman Leshchenko tells Interfax-Ukraine. Every September about 40,000 Hasidic Jews go to Uman for an annual pilgrimage. The Cherkasy city is a three hour drive from the nearest international airports, Odesa or Kyiv Boryspil.
