A wind power plant, €20M in humanitarian aid and Ukraine’s membership in the EU: the results of the German Foreign Minister’s visit to Kyiv.
On September 11, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock visited an electric substation near the capital and suggested that Ukraine should use more renewable energy sources. In particular, she envisions building a new wind power plant around the Chornobyl NPP. A corresponding declaration of intent has been signed.
At a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, Baerbock announced that Germany would allocate another €20M for humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The head of the German Foreign Ministry also stated that Ukraine’s accession to the EU is a necessary step in present day conditions. Kyiv can count on Berlin’s support on this path, as Germany is convinced that “EU expansion is a necessary geopolitical consequence of the war with Russia”.
At a meeting with President Zelenskyy, Baerbock discussed Ukraine’s defense needs and the strengthening of air defenses.
