A Ukrainian start-up that extracts carbon dioxide from the atmosphere has attracted €1.5M in investment.

The Ukrainian startup Carbominer, which captures carbon dioxide from the air, received a €1.5M grant from the EIC Accelerator Fund. Carbominer has already received a grant from the EBRD in 2022. In 2023, the project received additional funding from a Swiss Business Angel, and investment volume reached $1M. The startup launched its research laboratory in March 2020 and attracted seed investment from the SMRK VC fund in October of the same year.

The founder of the startup is Nick Oseyko, an innovator with an engineering and corporate background. In September 2021, the first prototype DAC (Direct Air Capture) installation was built. The team created a unit that cheaply extracts CO2 from the air. The greenhouse gas can then be supplied, for example, to greenhouses for growing flowers and vegetables. These installations can be placed near a greenhouse wall and collect CO2 right on the spot. The startup plans to extract 415,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere in five years.
