A Transcarpathian salt deposit needs investment in its logistics capabilities.
Since the shutdown of industry giant Artemsil in Ukraine, the issue of developing new salt deposits has become acute. Instant, substantial results from salt extraction are available in Transcarpathia, but they have not occurred because of the complexity of the deposit development process, a critical shortage of specialists during the war, and problems with purchasing equipment and investments.
In general, implementation of the project’s capacity will create 300 direct jobs and job creation in related services – several tens, if not hundreds of indirect jobs. However, if the deposit is fully operational, there is a risk that the surrounding roads will be destroyed by salt trucks. Therefore, the local authorities and the company are working on the possibility of delivering salt to the nearest railway junction in Bushtyna, nine km away.
The possibilities of building either a railway branch or a transportation cableway are being worked out.
