DTEK plans to construct energy storage facilities in Ukraine with a total capacity of up to 500 MW.

DTEK Renewables Finance has announced on the Irish Stock Exchange’s website its intention to undertake large-scale projects aimed at creating energy storage facilities (ESF) in Ukraine. Consequently, the company has initiated amendments to its Eurobond trust agreement and the terms of intergroup financing and transactions.

The development of battery storage technologies is a critical component in securing Ukraine’s energy stability amid the challenges confronting the country’s energy system.

In August 2024, several DTEK Renewables subsidiaries participated in an ancillary services market auction and secured five-year contracts with Ukrenergo for the provision of these services, utilizing ESF with a 140 MW capacity. The first phase of implementation involves establishing battery-based energy storage systems with a total capacity of 200 MW, which are scheduled to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025. Up to €300M is anticipated to be raised in order to finance this project.

DTEK Renewables is also exploring the potential for additional similar projects in Ukraine that would add an additional 300 MW.
