Gas procurement, renewable energy, and electricity market integration: EU to assist Ukraine in rebuilding its energy system.

The European Commission has proposed a new assistance package to expedite the integration of Ukraine’s energy market with its European counterpart, aiming for the electricity market’s full integration with the EU by spring 2027 and accelerating investment in renewable energy, enhancing its capacity by 1.5 GW.

In collaboration with partners, the EC will assist in financing gas procurement, particularly through the Ukraine Facility. This will enable the creation of sufficient gas reserves to ensure the security of supply. The new measures will build on over €2B in EU support provided over the past three years to bolster the Ukrainian energy system’s resilience.

“For three years, Russia has tried to plunge Ukraine into darkness by relentlessly attacking energy infrastructure. This must come to a definitive end. With the support package, Europe will deliver a sustainable and competitive energy system for Ukraine. Increasing the share of renewable energy and fully integrating energy markets will enhance the energy security of both Ukraine and the EU,” the EC stated.
