Foreign direct investment in Ukraine decreased by 14% over the year.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows to Ukraine amounted to $3.98B in the first 11 months of 2024, which is 14% less than in the same period in 2023. Net foreign direct investment (excluding FDI outside Ukraine) inflows were $3.64B for this period (-19%). The main share of FDI – 64% – is foreign companies operating in Ukraine reinvesting their profits. For the whole of 2023, reinvested profits amounted to 75% of FDI.
“The reduction in foreign direct investment and the low share of new (green field) investments is clearly a negative trend. Even with all the restrictions associated with the full-scale war, which has been going on for the third year, the government must show greater results in attracting foreign investors, which is vital both for macro-financial stability and for accelerating economic growth in the long term,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev.
