Ukraine destroyed a large amphibious ship worth $85M, and now Russia has lost 20% of its fleet in four months.

On the night of December 26, tactical aircraft belonging to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a large landing ship, the Novocherkask, that was part of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in occupied Feodosia. The ship was designed for beach landings, transferring troops and cargo by sea, as well as transporting various armored vehicles, including tanks.

As the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, specified, the ship was attacked by cruise missiles. Ukrainian intelligence suspected that the vessel was delivering Shaheed drones to the Crimean Peninsula, which is why the explosion was so powerful.

According to the Minister of Defense of the UK, Grant Shapps, Ukraine’s destruction of the Novocherkask shows that the war has not reached a dead end, as some believe.

“In the last four months, 20% of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has been destroyed“, he pointed out.
