EU ambassadors will discuss the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership by December 10.
The EC leaders’ meeting will be held in Brussels on December 14-15. European leaders are expected to discuss the European Commission’s proposals for a political decision on membership talks with Ukraine, which could begin after Kyiv fully fulfills the remaining conditions.
The European Commission believes this can be done by March, after which a new report will be presented, based on which the framework for negotiations will be approved. Only after that will official negotiations be possible. In addition, also on the agenda is the EC’s proposal to allocate €50B in financial aid to Ukraine for four years.
Meanwhile, the Hungarian parliament will consider a resolution against negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Orban’s ruling party, Fidesz, said that the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine should be based on a consensus among member states, but “to date, there are no conditions for this.”
