The transition of Ukrainian Railways to the Eurotrack will cost €250B and take over 20 years.

As Aurum Investment Group reported, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe in terms of area, with a developed and extensive railway network. The main track length is more than 20,000 km.

In addition, a change in track width will entail a change in the entire rolling and traction fleet, which does not seem realistic in the current conditions. In this regard, experts prefer Ukraine follow the experience of the Baltic States, where such track has been built to key logistics points, based on which transport transshipment hubs have been organized.

Ukraine has an old rail system, which differs in size from the European standard. Ukrainian trains travel on a wide track of 1520 mm; at the border, they meet with a narrow European track of 1435 mm. This causes significant obstacles at the western borders slowing the speed of both exports and imports.
