The US’ $2.6B military aid package will not include Abrams tanks.
However, the new aid package will consist of additional artillery, ammunition, and armored vehicles, as well as small-diameter land-based bombs. Currently, the Biden administration does not plan to send the M1 Abrams due to problems with technical support and maintenance of the tanks, but not out of a fear of escalating the conflict. The US administration also has refused to provide Kyiv with long-range ammunition. However, the Office of the President of Ukraine believes the time has come for transferring ATACMS long-range missiles. These would allow Ukraine to effectively destroy Russian logistics in the occupied territories. According to US officials, the new aid package will include about 100 Stryker combat vehicles, at least 50 Bradley armored vehicles, and thousands of rounds of munitions, particularly for air defense systems.
