Ukraine will expand the Danube River ports.
A plan has been announced to expand the water area at the ports in Izmail, Reni, and the port of Ust-Dunaisk. As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted, over the past six months Ukraine has managed to increase the cargo turnover at these ports from 30,000 tons per month to 1.7 million tons. “We see up to 100 ships in queues to enter these ports, so we are working on expanding their capacity,” the Prime Minister commented on the government’s decision. In addition, according to Shmyhal, this will improve navigation safety on the Danube with regard to control and maintenance of declared depths. Shmyhal added that, thanks to the opening of new checkpoints and the expansion of the water area of the Danube ports, Ukraine will be able to increase exports and strengthen its economic stability.
