A leak has been detected in the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies crude oil from Russia to Germany according to PERN, the pipeline’s operator, in a statement on Wednesday. PERN said the leak was first detected Tuesday evening and is located on one of the two lines of the western section of the pipeline, about 64 km from the Polish city of Plock. The operator said, “pumping on the damaged line was immediately switched off,” but supplies continued to their German partners, who are now investigating the cause of the damage. German officials said that initial information from Polish authorities show that the damage was most likely accidental, rather than an act of sabotage. However, the incident is still being investigated.
