Ukrainian storage facilities can become a “gas safe” for Europe.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmyhal, said that Ukraine could contribute to a more stable gas situation for Europe by providing part of Ukraine’s underground storage facilities as a gas safe for both European countries and individual companies. Currently, Ukrainian gas storage facilities have a volume of 33 billion cubic meters, of which Ukraine uses only 20-24 billion. Foreign companies are already storing a portion of their gas in the customs warehouse in Ukrainian territory. “However, we plan to negotiate with our European partners to make this process more systematic,” Shmyhal said. He added that the existence of this type of gas fund would provide stability during potential future energy crises, such as the one that has arisen now, reported unian.ua.
