Belarus government bonds fell Monday to the lowest levels since the Covid crisis hit Europe almost 18 months ago

. It is unclear if Thursday’s sanctions will include restrictions on trading Belarus bonds. Prompting yesterday’s selloff, the EU, US, UK and Canada imposed a series of sanctions on Belarus entities and on associates of Alexander Lukashenko, who claims he won re-election as president last August. Germany has said sanctions should continue until Belarus holds free elections and releases political prisoners.
