President Zelenskyy stated he is prepared to sit down at the negotiating table with President Vladimir Putin if it is the only path to peace.
“We will definitely pursue this option to meet with these four participants (Ukraine, Russia, the US, and the EU),” he said.
The president emphasized that Ukraine cannot regain its occupied territories at this time and cannot afford to lose millions of people “for the sake of a result that may not materialize.” However, in his view the occupied territories are able to be reclaimed both militarily and diplomatically. Zelenskyy also mentioned that the quickest route to diplomacy would be to secure Ukraine’s NATO membership.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated he has had “very constructive” discussions on Ukraine, emphasizing that he would “do everything” he could to stop the war.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, has expressed its willingness to negotiate with Zelenskyy but continues to insist that he is “illegitimate.” Moscow also demands that he “show interest” and lift the legislative ban on negotiations with Putin.
