Zelenskyy and Trump have discussed the fate of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reported that US President Donald Trump, during a phone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, proposed transferring Ukrainian nuclear power plants to US ownership.

“President Trump said that the US could provide significant assistance given its experience in the electricity and utilities sector. American ownership of these plants would offer the best protection for this infrastructure and support for the Ukrainian energy sector,” Leavitt stated.

In turn, Zelenskyy emphasized that during his conversation with Trump, only the fate of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is currently under temporary occupation and in danger, was discussed.

“The plant is not operational. We talked about whether we can restore this plant,” Zelenskyy clarified.

According to him, Trump offered US support in this context, but the issue of transferring Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the US was not brought up.

Meanwhile, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright indicated that the US could participate in the management of Ukrainian power plants, including nuclear ones, if this would aid in ensuring a ceasefire and achieving peace.
