Zelenskyy and Sandu discuss gas issues in Kyiv: Ukraine is ready for fuel transit from Azerbaijan.

After talks in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Moldovan President Maia Sandu issued a joint statement condemning the suspension of Russian gas supplies to Transnistria, an independent region within Moldova that is aligned with Russia but internationally recognized as a part of Moldova. Zelenskyy and Sandu confirmed their willingness to provide urgent and concrete solutions to meet the energy needs of the residents of the Transnistrian region and prevent further escalation of the crisis. The parties confirmed their determination to strengthen practical cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova in all areas of mutual interest.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine will quickly sign a contract and establish gas transit from Azerbaijan when it receives a corresponding signal from Slovakia and the EU but will not resume Russian fuel transit.

In addition, the Ukrainian president stated that Kyiv was ready to supply Transnistria with coal in exchange for electricity from their TPP.

“They have a consumption volume of 200-220 MW – this is what the Tiraspol region needs. And the station itself can produce 2 GW,” Zelenskyy said.
