Xi plans to organize a trilateral meeting with Putin and Trump.

Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of the celebrations marking the end of World War II, scheduled in Beijing on September 3. Immediately, the Russian president confirmed his attendance. The date nearly coincides with the end of the ultimatum Trump issued to the Kremlin on July 14, which gave Putin 50 days to cease fighting in Ukraine.

However, analysts believe that the US president’s visit to Beijing will favor Putin and Xi more than Trump himself. Therefore, Trump is unlikely to agree to such proposal.

On July 14, Trump expressed “deep disappointment” with Putin’s actions, saying he expected a peace deal with Ukraine two months earlier. He also confirmed plans to increase US military aid to Ukraine, funded by European partners.

Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy noted that Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov has proposed holding a new meeting with Russia this week. Zelenskyy emphasized that the negotiations need to be intensified to achieve a ceasefire and added that Ukraine is ready for a leadership-level meeting.
