Witkoff: The US and Ukraine are close to signing a mineral deal.

Trump’s special representative, Steve Witkoff, anticipates an agreement being signed this week that will provide for US access to Ukraine’s mineral resources.

“President Trump sent Zelenskyy a signal, and he will no longer hesitate… and I believe you will see the agreement signed this week,” added Trump’s Middle Eastern envoy.

Concerning the peace agreement, Witkoff stressed that any accord requires concessions from both sides: “whether territorial or economic.”

The President of Ukraine’s administration denied reports that Ukraine has refused to finalize an agreement with the US, stating that negotiations are ongoing. The Ukrainian side views investment in minerals by European countries and the US as “an element of guaranteed security that will contribute to the overall framework of such guarantees.”

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, indicated that discussions between Ukraine and the US regarding the agreement are in the “final stage”. However, the US is “very resistant” to including security guarantees for Ukraine in the deal. Kyiv hopes that this issue will be addressed at the upcoming meeting between the presidents.
