While in Kyiv, Robert Fico promised energy aid and support for EU membership, but not NATO.

On October 7 during a visit to Ukraine, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that his country is ready to support Ukraine during possible blackouts by providing emergency electricity supplies. Slovakia will allocate €500,000 to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as part of a bilateral cooperation plan. These funds will be used to purchase power equipment from a Slovak company with subsequent transfer to Ukraine.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the parties’ agreement on the creation of an Eastern European energy hub, which involves using gas storage facilities, developing the Mukachevo interconnector, and cooperation in the nuclear industry. However, Ukraine confirmed that it would not allow Russian gas to be transported through its territory.

Fico emphasized that he is not against Ukraine’s accession to the EU but has a “cold” attitude towards its membership in NATO. He gave his assurance that his government supports Ukraine’s peace plans.

At the same time, Fico plans to visit Moscow next year on the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War to thank Russia for its liberation.
