Where will Ukraine spend the $2.2B tranche recently received from the IMF?
This is part of the funds provided by the $16B Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this will help the government finance critical budget expenditures, social assistance, and salaries for doctors and teachers.
It should be noted that this is the fifth tranche from the IMF, bringing the total amount provided by the IMF since the beginning of the war over $10B.
The Ministry of Finance emphasized that Ukraine will continue to actively work on the implementation of jointly defined reforms under the EFF program because this contributes to ensuring macro-financial stability and creates conditions for the further recovery and development of Ukraine’s economy on its way to joining the EU.
The next steps that Ukraine needs to take before the fifth program review are the continuation of structural reforms covering public finances, the financial sector, monetary and exchange rate policy, governance, anti-corruption, and the energy sector.
