What were Trump’s comments concerning Ukraine during his address of the US Congress?

On March 5, US President Donald Trump mentioned that he received a message (a social media post) from Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding his willingness to come to the negotiating table to establish peace in Ukraine and to sign a mineral agreement. Trump made it clear that he viewed Zelenskyy’s appeal as a sufficient apology to resume dialogue.
While he did not address the issue of suspending US military aid to Kyiv, he reiterated his intention to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible in order to avoid wasting any more money on it.
The US president also asserted that through negotiations with Russia, it became evident that “they are ready for peace.” “If you want to stop the war, you have to talk to both countries, to both sides,” Trump emphasized.
He again pointed out that Europe spent more on purchasing Russian oil and gas than on defending Ukraine, while the US has allocated about $300B for Ukraine’s defense, attributing this to his predecessor, Joe Biden. However, according to several official sources, the US has provided less than $200B, which differs significantly from Trump’s claim.
