UZ has increased the volume of freight transportation by 14% in a month.
In August, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) transported 12.27 million tons of cargo, which is 13.8% more than in August 2022, despite the drop in export shipments due to the end of the grain agreement.
According to the head of the UZ, Yevhen Lyashchenko, the August increase is due to the intensification of domestic transportation, mainly construction cargo, intended to restore the country’s infrastructure. Thus, the total volume of cargo transportation in domestic traffic this year increased by 34.5% compared to August 2022 and amounted to 8.31 million tons. Transportation of construction materials increased by 64% (up to 2.99 million tons). Transportation of hard coal increased by 15.2% (up to 2.28 million tons), grain cargoes – by 56% (up to 744,300 tons), and iron and manganese ores – by 38.5% (up to 680,700 tons).
On the other hand, in August there was a decrease in exports by 17.7% to 3.3 million tons. The largest drop was recorded in grain export, by 45.3% (to 875,800 tons).
