Using drones helps Ukraine to restrain the Russian offensive despite its shortage of military personnel.

In some areas along the front, the number of Russian troops exceeds those of the Ukrainian military tenfold, but the Russians cannot advance quickly because the Ukrainian defenders in these regions compensate for their low numbers with drones. On a typical day, a battalion can easily organize a flight of 60 FPV drones, compared to just 15 a year ago on a difficult day. Nearly a year after the offensive on Pokrovsk began, the Russians have still not captured this major logistics center.

The Ministry of Defense reported that over the past year alone, more than 250 new models of UAVs of various types have been approved for use at the front. “If we consider the number of FPV drones produced, then Ukraine currently outpaces Russia,” they stated.

In 2025, the availability of unmanned systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially FPV drones, has risen once again. Currently, the number of drones supplied is approximately 200,000 units per month.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyy noted that in January 66% of enemy military equipment was destroyed by Ukrainian drones, with 7% more targets hit compared to December.
