Ukrainians have been switching to electric cars during the war, and automotive imports have increased by 300% compared to the pre-war year of 2021.

In 2023, Ukraine imported a record number of electric cars – 37,953 units. This indicator exceeds 2021’s corresponding figure by 300%. According to 2023’s results, electric cars now account for 10% of the total number of cars imported into Ukraine. In 2021, the share of electric cars was only 1.2%.

The largest number of imported electric cars was registered in the Lviv region – 5,133. Kyiv and Odesa regions are in the top three, with 4,913 and 3,412 cars, respectively.

The most popular brands in Ukraine are Volkswagen, Tesla, Nissan, Renault, and Honda. As for models, the five most popular electric cars in 2023 are Nissan Leaf – 13.8%; Volkswagen ID.4 – 9.9%; Tesla Model 3 – 8.7%; Volkswagen e-Golf – 7.8%; Tesla Model Y – 5.8%.
