Ukrainian retailers are reducing costs and increasing efficiency by investing in solar power plants.

Experts highlight that retailers and businesses in related sectors are currently harnessing solar energy to cut expenses and boost energy independence. For instance, two years ago Epicenter began installing solar power systems on the roofs of three shopping centers in Kyiv and two in Vinnytsia, with a total capacity of approximately 6 MW, which enables it to fulfill up to 30% of the shopping center’s electricity requirements.

The Novus chain is also aiming to make its stores entirely self-sufficient. In 2023, the grocery retailer outfitted one of its stores in Novy Petrivtsy with solar panels, which helped it cover 65% of the supermarket’s energy needs during the summer, when solar production is at its peak.

To support similar efforts, he government is rolling out programs to support investment in solar power facilities. This year, international brand Fox ESS, a leading manufacturer of inverters and energy storage systems, entered the Ukrainian market. These systems optimize the use of renewable energy, particularly energy produced by solar power plants, by storing energy during peak generation periods and supplying it to the grid when needed.
