Ukrainian farmers’ losses due to the war have reached $3.9B.

The largest losses were suffered by small farmers specializing in crop and livestock production, the UN FAO reported. According to a survey’s result, the number of small producers in Ukraine decreased by almost 80%. About 12% of small agricultural enterprises said that part of their land is potentially contaminated with ammunition.

Front-line regions were the most affected, where 32% of respondents confirmed damage to their business. Almost 90% of crop producers reported a drop in income. Small producers of livestock products were less affected, but more than 60% reported a decrease in revenue.

Farmers’ problems related to the disruption of supply chains have also increased. About 9% of respondents said that resellers stopped their activities or could not purchase more products, also among the main problems: the difficulty of accessing resources due to high prices, lack of workers, and lack of fuel or electricity for the operation of agricultural machinery.
