Ending nearly six-year suspension, regular flights re-start Aug. 9 from Moscow to Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Russia ended all direct flights after the October 31, 2016 terrorist bombing of a Russia charter jet between Sharm el Sheikh and St. Petersburg. The returne of Russian tourists to the Red Sea may be slow, due to the 17% devaluation of the ruble since the bombing and a continuing ban on charter flights. Egypt’s Deputy Tourism Minister Ghada Shalaby expects Russian arrivals could rise to 300-400,000 per month this fall.
