Ukraine’s wind generation potential is 140 GW.
International companies are interested in investing in the industry’s development, said Minister of Energy German Galushchenko. He noted that Ukraine lost about 80% of wind generation capacity because of Russian military aggression.
“Most of the wind stations are located in the south of the country, where there are suitable climatic conditions for this – first of all, sufficient wind speed is necessary. Unfortunately, today, this territory is temporarily occupied, and practically all wind generation has been lost accordingly,” he explained.
At the same time, even in war conditions, this direction in renewable energy continues to develop. This year, a wind farm was launched in the Mykolaiv region, and 114 MW were added to the energy system. The shelves of the Black and Azov seas have the greatest potential for developing wind power generation, which currently cannot be developed due to the war.
