Ukraine’s mineral agreement with the US is not yet ready to be signed.

President Zelenskyy said that the proposed agreement concerning the use of Ukrainian natural resources has still not been finalized. The document does not adequately protect the country’s interests. Furthermore, Zelenskyy clarified that his signature should not appear in the agreement, as the appropriate ministers must sign it. Regarding the proposed deal, the Ukrainian leader emphasizes that it should encompass not only subsoil resources but also security guarantees and foreign investment in Ukraine, all of which must be legally articulated.
“You can consider how to allocate profits once the security guarantees are established. So far, I have not seen that included,” Zelenskyy specified.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asserted that simply having Americans oversee the mineral extraction sites will serve as a sufficient deterrent for Moscow.
Additionally, it was reported that the US introduced an agreement in Munich that would grant the US rights to 50% of all of Ukraine’s mineral reserves. However, Zelenskyy did not agree to approve the deal. Ukraine has reviewed the draft and is expected to present it’s revisions to the US.
