Ukraine’s armed forces seek permission to destroy enemy aircraft in Russian territory; Ukraine can strike any point in Crimea.

For Ukraine to cope with Russian aviation, first of all, international partners must agree to allow Ukraine to strike Russian military targets near the borders and further from them, said Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesman for the Khortytsia operational-strategic strike group. As he clarified, Ukraine receiving permission will make it possible to destroy Russian aviation, warehouses, logistics infrastructure, and airfields from which guided and unguided aerial bombs and missiles are launched.

Meanwhile, Ukraine now has American-made high-precision missiles that allow it to reach every corner of Crimea. Russia used Crimea for a long time as a base of operations near the southern coast of Ukraine. Now, Kyiv plans to force the Kremlin to make tough choices about where to deploy some of its most valuable air defense assets that protect critical military infrastructure.

“This is a new strategic push,” the NYT notes.

Military experts note the successes of Ukrainians in this direction in the last couple of months and their intention to continue this campaign.
