Ukraine’s agricultural sector generates 19% of the country’s GDP, exports 70% of its products, and can feed 400 million people.
In 2010-2021, the Ukrainian agricultural sector made a significant leap in development, employing 17% of Ukrainians who produce 19% of GDP, with 70% of its products exported, which is one of the highest indicators in Europe, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.
The Ukrainian products that are produced are enough to feed almost 400 million people. “The role of Ukraine in international food security is very important. After the full-scale invasion, Ukraine could not export products for four months. This led to the global food price index increasing by 35% in 2022. In African countries, hundreds of millions of people were forced to significantly reduce food consumption,” added the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Ukraine traditionally exports grain and oil crops, ranking fourth in the world in corn exports, first in sunflower oil, and seventh in poultry meat. Ukrainian dairy farmers are among the ten leaders in butter exports. In addition, Ukraine is among the leaders in the production of walnuts and the export of honey.
