Ukraine will lose $8 billion annually due to mined agricultural lands.
The revenue losses will result because the land will be idle, researchers say. Experts have estimated that agricultural losses from the full-scale invasion, as of April 24, 2023, amounted to $8.7B, of which $6B comes from losses of agricultural machinery, $2B for lost or stolen products and resources, $500M for perennial crops, and $300M for animals and aquaculture.
The area of mined fields currently reaches eight million hectares, of which six million hectares are in the occupied territories and two million hectares in liberated areas.
According to experts, “Ukrainian farmers have been suffering from Russian shelling for more than a year. They suffer material losses, as explosive objects prevent agricultural work. Destroyed military equipment, rockets and drones release heavy metals, explosive substances, and combustion products”.
