Ukraine suffers from a shortage of building materials; industry professionals offer ways to solve the problem.
The CEO of Konstruktiv, a company distributor of building materials, Volodymyr Horoshchuk, said that due to the war and the need for reconstruction, the company faces a critical question: Where can they obtain materials at affordable prices? After all, the leading construction material companies before the war have either lost their production capacities, are located close to the war zone, or are under occupation.
Therefore, almost everything is in short supply, including mineral wool, reinforced concrete products, certain types of mesh, and geotextiles. The forecasted situation for metal is difficult due to the loss of Azovstal. A shortage of plasterboard is expected – Knauf lost its capacity in Soledar. Delivery of materials for road construction and waterproofing is also under question.
Therefore, Horoshchuk says it is worth searching for new solutions. Possibilities include replacing products in short supply with imports and increasing production or building new factories to produce construction materials. To accomplish this, it will be necessary to work with the banking system and launch programs with favorable conditions that will provide access to financing to speed up reconstruction.
