Ukraine state company Ukrtransgaz will be certified according to the new EU rules.
The national state energy regulator passed the final certification of Ukrtransgaz under European gas supply safety rules. Thus, the company became the second gas storage operator in Europe which has successfully passed certification following the updated EU and Energy Community rules.
The certification of Ukrtransgaz gives Ukrainian gas storage facilities the right to store gas reserves from foreign customers and gas volumes from countries that do not have gas storage facilities or volumes of gas jointly purchased by EU countries in case of a crisis.
Ukraine can offer European partners up to 15 billion cubic meters of its gas storage capacity. Certification should also prevent the recurrence of instances where the gas volume in storage was insufficient for the autumn-winter period.
