Ukraine needs about 200 fighter jets to protect the sky.

According to Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fighter jets should be multi-purpose. In general, Ukraine needs to carry out an aviation rearmament, to replace old Soviet aircraft with modern versions. According to Ignat, currently Russian aviation exceeds the number of Ukrainian aerial combat vehicles by five to six times. As well, the newest aircraft in the Ukraine’s Air Force is the Su-27, which entered service in 1991. The spokesman noted that Ukraine needs to create up to five tactical aviation brigades composed of a single type of Western-style multi-purpose aircraft. Currently, the most likely candidate to replace the old Soviet plane is the F-16 because it has a wide range of weapons suitable for use against ground and aerodynamic targets. Ukraine is waiting for the delivery of several squadrons. Having gained superiority in the air, Ukraine will be able to conduct ground operations more successfully.
